Kharabath, Masale Uppittu or Masala Upma as you might call it, is a popular breakfast recipe from Karnataka and is served in most fast food restaurants (popularly known as darshinis) in Bangalore. The masala, made with a chosen set of spices, elevates the regular upma into a flavour-loaded aromatic dish. Add your choice of vegetables for a wholesome homemade breakfast that is ready in a jiffy.

Ingredients:

Roasted Semolina, Green Chilli Powder, Dry Ginger, Tamarind, Hing, Chana Dal, Urad Dal, Cashews, Salt, Aromatic spices, Onion, tomato, Curry leaves and Coriander leaves


Cooking Method:

  • Take about 400ml of water in a kadai and bring it to boil. Once the water starts to boil, add 150g of iPaaka Masala Upma and stir it into a uniform mixture
  • Close the kadai with a plate or lid and cook it on a low flame for 5 mins. 
  • Garnish with fresh Coriander leaves and serve hot with a dollop of ghee on top

Serves 2.


Tip: For one part of the mix add 2.5 parts of water to get a nice flowy Masala Upma.  If needed add a pinch of salt as per your taste and mix well
