A hot, tangy soup, ‘saaru’ is generally made with lentils (usually toor dal) and assorted vegetables blended with special spices boiled to a thin consistency. One may enjoy it as a hot soup or slurp with steamed rice. Best Before 6 months from the date of manufacture.

Storage Instructions: Use a clean and dry spoon.  Refrigerating it extends its shelf-life by another 3-6 months.  

Ingredients: Coriander seeds, Jaggery, Turmeric, Tamarind, Red Chilli, Jeera, Hing, Lentils (Toor Dal), Salt, Dehydrated Tomato, Curry and Coriander leaves.

Cooking Method:

  • For 40g (3 Tbsp approx.) of this mix, add 400ml warm water and mix well.
  • Close the container with a lid and bring it to boil.
  • Boil for 10 minutes on low flame.
  • For tempering, splutter one tspn mustard seeds in oil. Add to the Rasam and cover with a lid to seal in the aroma.

Recommended: Add freshly chopped tomatoes and coriander leaves while the Rasam is boiling, to enhance the taste. Serves 2.
